What does it mean to have freedom?

Freedom is only truly “free” when it applies to everyone, not a select few...

I used to be proud to be an American.

But not anymore, not the America I see unfolding in front of my eyes.

It was never supposed to be “us” versus “them”.

The powerful love pitting us against each other so that we are so busy fighting, we won’t notice what is actually going on.

Why are we labeling others based on a color association?

We aren't in kindergarten anymore.

Someone I know recently said how being a certain political color was “disgusting”. I was absolutely blown away by the animosity with which it was uttered.

Why are you disgusted by the color they associate with?

How do you hold such hatred, yet tout to believe in a God who loves everyone?

I think we've got it all wrong.

Several years ago, the inexperienced me thought I had to choose between the two factions.

That there were no other options.

But I was wrong -- there have always been other options, they are just often silenced.

Be it due to funding issues or people not realizing that other options for something different are possible.

So, when there's no one left to choose based on what you truly believe in,

If you can't fight the unfair system,

You have to choose the lesser of two evils.

If you fight hatred with hatred, doesn't that defeat the entire purpose of peace?

I see people on both sides saying hateful things to the other -- but to what end?

Does it make you happy to make fun of the “other side” in retaliation?

Where is your humanity?

Why don't we agree on the fact that we're all humans and deserve to be treated as such without nitpicking political or religious affiliations, race, or citizenship?

Stop sharing memes and start sharing things that will unite everyone in the actual meaning of what the true America believes.

You always have a choice in life – will you simply sit in your comfy chair and watch events transpire?

Why not do something to show that all humans should be treated as if their lives matter?

Regardless of religious affiliation, I firmly believe in treating others the way you would want to be treated.

So, here is my cry for you, America.

Get up and do something.

This is not the America I grew up proud to be a part of.

This is not okay.

自由があるとはどういうことなのか？

自由とは、選ばれた少数ではなく、全ての人に適用される時に初めて真に「自由」となる…

かつて、私はアメリカ人である事を誇りに思っていた。

しかし今は違う。目の前で起こっているアメリカの出来事を誇りに思えないのです。

「我々」対「彼ら」という構図になるはずではなかった。

権力者は私たちを対立させることを好み、そうすれば争いに忙殺され、真の事態に気づかなくなるからです。

なぜ肌の色で他人を分類するのですか？

もう幼稚園児ではないのですよ。

知り合いが最近、ある政治的立場を持つことが「嫌悪すべきことだ」と言い、その言葉に込められた憎悪に私は心底驚いた。

なぜ彼らが連想するその立場に嫌悪を感じるのか？

どうしてそんな憎しみを抱きながら、全ての人を愛する神を信じてると言えるのか？

私たちは根本的に間違っているのだと思う。

数年前、未熟だった私は二つの陣営から選択しないといけないと思い込んでいた。

他に選択肢など無いのだと。

だがそれは間違いだった――常に別の選択肢は存在していた。ただ、しばしば沈黙させられてきただけでした。

資金の問題であれ、人々が「異なる選択肢」の可能性に気づかないことであれ。

だから、真に信じるものに基づいて選ぶべき相手が誰もいなくなった時、

不公平なシステムと戦えないなら、

二つの悪のうち、よりマシな方を選ばないといけないのです。

憎しみで憎しみに立ち向かえば、平和という目的そのものが台無しになるのではないでしょうか？

双方が相手を罵り合う姿を毎日見るが、いったい何の為なのですか？

報復として「相手側」を嘲笑うことに、果たして喜びを感じるのでしょうか？

あなたの人間性はどこへ消えたのですか？

私たちは皆人間であり、政治的・宗教的所属や人種、国籍を細かく詮索せず、人間として扱われるに値するという事実で合意できないものでしょうか。

ミームを拡散するのを止め、真のアメリカが信じる本質的な意味において、全ての人を結びつけるものを共有し始めようではないか。

人生には常に選択肢がある――ただ快適な椅子に座って事態の推移を眺めているだけで良いのですか？

全ての人間の命が尊ばれるように行動してみませんか？

宗教的立場に関わらず、私は「自分がそうして欲しいように他人に接する」ことを固く信じています。

ですから、アメリカよ、これが私の叫びなのです。

立ち上がって行動して下さい。

今、目の当たりにしているのは、私が誇りを持って育ったアメリカではない。

これは許されるべきではないのです。

何谓自由呢？

唯有当自由惠及所有人而非少数特权阶层时，它才真正称得上“自由”……

我曾以身为美国人为荣。

但不再如此，至少不是我眼前正在展开的那个美国。

本不该是“我们”对抗“他们”。

当权者热衷于挑拨我们相互攻讦，让我们忙于内斗而无暇察觉真相。

为何要用肤色标签划分他人？

我们早已不是幼儿园的孩子们。

我认识的某人最近说某种政治立场是“令人作呕的”，那句话里透出的恶意简直让我震惊。

你为何对他们认同的立场感到厌恶？

你怀着如此仇恨，却仍坚信那位爱众生的神？

我想我们都搞错了。

几年前，经验尚浅的我以为必须在两派之间做出抉择。

以为别无选择。

但我错了——选择始终存在，只是常被压制。

无论是资金问题，还是人们未曾意识到存在不同可能。

所以，当你真正相信的人都已不可以选择的时

当你无法对抗不公的体系时，

就只能在两害相权中取其轻。

若以仇恨对抗仇恨，岂非背离和平的初衷？

我目睹双方阵营互吐恶言——这究竟有何意义？

以嘲弄“对方”作为报复，真能令你欢欣吗？

你们的人性何在？

为何不能认同这样一个事实：我们都是人类，都值得被平等对待，无需纠缠于政治立场、宗教信仰、种族或国籍？

停止传播恶搞梗图，开始分享能凝聚人心的内容，让真正的美国精神得以彰显。

人生总有选择——你是否要安坐舒适椅中，坐视事态发展？

为何不采取行动，让每个生命都获得应有的尊重？

无论信仰何种宗教，我坚信待人如己的准则。

所以，美国啊，我在此呼吁：

起身行动吧。

这已非我引以为傲的故土。

这绝不可容忍。
